An honors graduate of Harvard University and the Cardozo Law School of Yeshiva University, where he also served on the Law Review, Gary brings more than 30 years of litigation and negotiation experience to his practice as a mediator. He has successfully negotiated and mediated resolutions in family matters, employment cases, commercial disputes, personal injury cases, and major civil rights matters. He has tried everything from small claims cases to class actions, and served for several years as New York City’s chief trial counsel in the World Trade Center Litigation, a position that required deft handling of various opposing counsel, numerous public and private litigants, city agencies, the press, and politicians.
Gary also served as the NYC Department of Building’s Assistant Commissioner for Regulatory Policy and Enforcement where he oversaw enforcement of the zoning and building codes for the nation’s largest City. This required oversight of hundreds of large and small developers, architects, and contractors, and their projects. This included everything from large residential and commercial high-rises and landmark buildings, to one family houses, small tax-payers in the outer boroughs, and commercial signage. His wide range of litigation experiences goes far beyond real property, and includes criminal, employment, personal injury and commercial matters.
Gary’s approach to litigation was to maintain a firm position, while always keeping the door open to resolution. He has successfully negotiated settlements in thousands of cases over the years. Realizing that mediation allowed for keeping costs down while also permitting parties to craft satisfying conclusions to lengthy litigations, he began studying mediation in 1995 when he completed both Basic and Divorce Mediation Training at the NYC Bar Association. He has since studied Divorce Mediation at the Ackerman Family Institute for the Family, the New York City Bar Association, and Safe Horizons under noted Divorce Mediator, Bob Collins, Esq. He has studied Commercial Mediation under Simeon Baum and Steve Hochman. Gary has been appointed as a member of the Mediation Panel of the Federal Courts, Southern District of NY, and the Commercial Mediation Panel of New York State Supreme Court, New York County.
